This data set comprises extracted sequence records from the European Nucleotide Archive linked to citations in open-access publications that were aggregated at Europe PubMed Central. In doing so, ENA records were parsed and filtered for a valid country tag and fed into the ePMC RESTful API to extract matching secondary publications by ENA accession or project accession numbers. The resulting data sets are normalized as tables ENA_SEQUENCES, PMC_REFERENCES alongside a curated list of world's countries in the table COUNTRY and economics groups in the table COUNTRY2GRP. These tables are the basis for a data warehouse and a web application, which enables users to join literature and sequence databases in a multidimensional fashion. A concrete use case is the analysis of how different countries use and contribution nucleotide sequence data to inform access & benefit sharing policy discussions happening in the context of the United Nations convention on Biological Diversity.
